20oct9:00 am11:00 amCommunity Planting DayThe Community Planting Day will engage Birdwings Forest School children and families, along with local neighbors and community members, in a collaborative effort to foster nature connection and care for Country. This project will focus on removing invasive weed species and replanting native plants specific to our local area along the riparian zone of Guanaba Creek. This creek is a cherished play area for local children and a site for our nature connection programs. The replanting effort will involve selecting native plants that are well-suited to the riparian zone, a decision made in consultation with the children, as we frequently discuss and explore this environment together. The banks of Guanaba Creek have been impacted by seasonal flooding, and replacing weeds with native plants will help stabilize these banks, enhancing safety for the children who play here. Children will play an active role in both the planning and delivery of the project. They will participate in discussions about the types of plants to be used, learn about the importance of native species in ecosystem health, and take part in the physical planting activities alongside community members. This hands-on involvement not only educates the children about environmental stewardship but also strengthens community bonds through shared effort and responsibility.
