This event is open to the community, families and children welcome to join us! Bring your own gloves and shovels, we\\'ll provide the plants!

20oct9:00 am11:00 amCommunity Planting DayThe Community Planting Day will engage Birdwings Forest School children and families, along with local neighbors and community members, in a collaborative effort to foster nature connection and care for Country. This project will focus on removing invasive weed species and replanting native plants specific to our local area along the riparian zone of Guanaba Creek. This creek is a cherished play area for local children and a site for our nature connection programs. The replanting effort will involve selecting native plants that are well-suited to the riparian zone, a decision made in consultation with the children, as we frequently discuss and explore this environment together. The banks of Guanaba Creek have been impacted by seasonal flooding, and replacing weeds with native plants will help stabilize these banks, enhancing safety for the children who play here. Children will play an active role in both the planning and delivery of the project. They will participate in discussions about the types of plants to be used, learn about the importance of native species in ecosystem health, and take part in the physical planting activities alongside community members. This hands-on involvement not only educates the children about environmental stewardship but also strengthens community bonds through shared effort and responsibility.

24oct9:30 am11:30 amImaginative Play MattersImaginative Play Matters events will be held across 4 mornings during Children\\'s Week at the Play Matters Sunshine Coast Hub. Hosting 4 consecutive events will give more children and families the opportunity to participate. Children informed the decision to host these events. Children attending the Mons Playgroups were asked the question, \\'would you like to celebrate Children\\'s Week again this year and how should we celebrate?\\' Of course the answer was YES, and \\'dress up and make things and play\\' was the unanimous answer! The activities delivered at these events will be guided by our Children\\'s Voices Project, to inform the activities delivered across all 4 events. The children have provided a long list of play experiences they love to do at playgroup. Activities such as dress up stations, kitchen play, picnics, car washing, painting, obstacle course, music, dance, and craft. Local organisations aligning with our values and supporting Children\\'s Rights will be invited to participate, such as Sunshine Sign & Sing, First Nations Community groups, Library, Fire truck, Police, Sunshine Coast Councils Waste and Recycling Education, musical entertainment are some examples. All children and families in the community will be invited to attend.

24oct10:00 am11:11 amOfficer keepsafeWe plan on following on from child protection week into children\\'s week by inviting an officer from the Police force to interact with the children and discuss what it means to be safe. Letting the children see and touch some of the non-threatening equipment (like a badge, hat, or flashlight) can make the officer seem more real and less intimidating. A brief, supervised look inside a police car can be exciting and demystify the vehicle, showing it as a tool for safety rather than something to fear. This will also create positive connections within the community. We plan on involving the children in the planning; questions they like to ask the police officer and how they would like to celebrate feeling safe. Families will also be invited to the event. Resources needed: Reading books that depict police officers in a positive light which can prepare the child for the meeting and reinforce the idea that officers are helpers. Purchasing police dress ups and engaging in role-playing games where the child pretends to be a police officer can also help internalize the concept of officers as protectors.

25oct3:00 pm5:00 pmMother Duck Carindale Children's Week CelebrationAs part of our service’s philosophy and image of child we view children as capable and deserving learners. This influences the way in which we work with and alongside children and how we empower the rights of children in our care and how we advocate for them. As this is embedded within our service, our children and educators often reflect on The Convention on the Rights of the Child to ensure our children feel safe, support and valued. Throughout the year, our Senior and Kindergarten Studio educators and children have been exploring children’s rights to consent and giving their opinion and sharing their thoughts on decisions affecting them. One aspect of this has been focused on documentation displayed that contains children’s work, ideas, and images. It is important that children are included in these decisions and throughout the development of documentation, and that their consent is given for their images and work to be included in publications. Alongside educators, the children are creating a book that highlights this important work from a child’s perspective. We will be using Children’s Week to host an event at our service that celebrates the publishing of the children’s book, with a copy of the book for each family at the service. We are hoping to share this journey with our families and our wider Carindale community. We are fortunate to be surrounded by aged care facilities and our local state school is situated across the road, which many of our past families now attend. The children will be making invitation to be given to these local community groups as well as the residents within our street. One of the mantras at our service is ‘nothing without the child’, as such the children have been, and will continue to be a part of all decisions and planning into our Children’s Week event.

Our \\'Intercept Youth and Family Support\\' program was established over 17years ago in Morayfield/Caboolture. This need has grown in our community and as such this program has expanded with now 9 targeted programs, including early intervention reducing child protection concerns, youth crime, prevention of youth homelessness counselling and intervention services to young people in foster care, mental health support and social access and engagement for young people with disabilities. To support these critical services we host an annual Trivia night, which we fund from our fundraising efforts, donations and benefactors. No children attend this event but the funds support them and their families. Some children assist with preparing and getting this event ready.

29oct3:30 pm5:00 pmOld Nana Quokka; Caring for CountryThere will be a performance for children of primary school age. Children will be invited to sing and dance along with the performers at some time during the show. We will aim to have some activities for after the show that involve \\'caring for country\\'. The show is 45 minutes and will take place in either a local school or at our neighborhood center in Sandgate. Through Old Nana Quokka, Yamatji-Noongar Elder Aunty Rhonda Collard-Spratt shares the healing wisdom of her ancestors, and the importance of caring for Country. On the spiritual place of Wadjemup, Rottnest Island, tourists are injuring the animals and making them sick. It’s time to make a stand. In this Aboriginal Dreaming story, farting quokkas, dive-bombing seabirds and protesting snakes teach us how to look after our sacred land and its animals.
