This influences the way in which we work with and alongside children and how we empower the rights of children in our care and how we advocate for them. As this is embedded within our service, our children and educators often reflect on The Convention on the Rights of the Child to ensure our children feel safe, support and valued. Throughout the year, our Senior and Kindergarten Studio educators and children have been exploring children’s rights to consent and giving their opinion and sharing their thoughts on decisions affecting them. One aspect of this has been focused on documentation displayed that contains children’s work, ideas, and images. It is important that children are included in these decisions and throughout the development of documentation, and that their consent is given for their images and work to be included in publications. Alongside educators, the children are creating a book that highlights this important work from a child’s perspective. We will be using Children’s Week to host an event at our service that celebrates the publishing of the children’s book, with a copy of the book for each family at the service. We are hoping to share this journey with our families and our wider Carindale community. We are fortunate to be surrounded by aged care facilities and our local state school is situated across the road, which many of our past families now attend. The children will be making invitation to be given to these local community groups as well as the residents within our street. One of the mantras at our service is ‘nothing without the child’, as such the children have been, and will continue to be a part of all decisions and planning into our Children’s Week event.
