Children’s Week 2021

Children’s Week 2021

Children’s Week is celebrated every year across Australia. A diverse range of events and activities are organised at National, State and Local levels to celebrate the rights of children to enjoy childhood and for the wider community to rejoice in their talents, skills and abilities.

In Queensland, Children’s Week will take place from 23 to 31 October 2021. This year’s theme is about children’s right to choose their friends and safely connect with others. It’s about encouraging children from any background to meet with others, participate safely in activities they enjoy, and talk about issues that are important to them.

Children’s Rights Queensland organises Children’s Week across our state. This year, Children’s Rights Queensland turns 50, and to celebrate, is offering 50 grants to groups and organisations to help them deliver a Children’s Week celebration or project that raises awareness of children’s rights.

Grants are valued at up to $500 and can be for new or existing celebrations or projects—music and concerts, trivia and games, walks and fun runs, dress-up days, online events—the options are bound by the limits of your imagination! Celebrations and projects need to promote community involvement and help to increase awareness of the needs, interests, rights or achievements of children. Events must take place during Queensland Children’s Week, or a week either side, with contingency plans prepared in case COVID-19 prevents the event from going ahead.

Non-government organisations based in Queensland can apply, including groups such as playgroups, neighbourhood centres, childcare and women’s centres, parents, friends and citizen’s associations or youth centres.

Applications close Monday 6 September 2021. To get involved, visit childrensrightsqld.org.au/childrens-week/
