Free car safety seat checks

Surveys show that up to 80% of children are travelling in an incorrectly install, fitted or adjusted car safety seat. Absolute Baby Rockhampton is passionate about improving family education on car safety seats and would like to offer free car safety seat checks to local families during Children’s Safety Week. A car safety seat needs to be installed correctly, adjusted to fit your child correctly AND checked every time you use it, because no one plans a car accident

In 2022 I was able to personally fund a limited number of free car safety seat checks (10 at a cost of $25 each). Of these, 100% required adjustment and the family was very appreciative of the guidance provided. The demand was significantly higher, however, and the grant would allow an additional 20 free car seat checks to be offered.

Over National Road Safety Week I was asked (paid) to check the car seats of families attending a few child care centres in the area, and of the 87 checked, only 4 were correctly installs, adjusted and fitted. That means 83 families needed some guidance on the way their children’s safety in the car could be improved. It’s not about guilt or blame! It’s about being thankful for safe trips so far, and accepting of advice and understanding that car seats are safety devices!
